A USB flash is used when OTA (over the air) update is not a viable option or a complete reflash of the firmware is required.

What is the different between OTA and USB drive firmware upgrade?


This is a full firmware installation and will erase any apps, settings or data stored in the display. Take precautions before resetting the unit.  

 

DO NOT remove the USB drive after the display boots up until after getting through the initial setup.

Instructions  

  1. Format a USB drive as FAT32 (For instructions on how to format a USB flash drive to FAT 32 please see link.) How to format USB Drive to FAT32
  2. Extract the following folders to the root directory of the USB drive
    • IFPxx52-1C extract 'upgrade_9950
  3. Insert USB drive into the USB port identified for your ViewBoard 
  4. Initiate Upgrade procedure


Methods to upgrade the firmware 

A.  Debug Menu Upgrade (Recommended) 
B.  Power Key Upgrade (to use when the screen is blank or no access to debug menu) 

 

A.  Debug Menu Upgrade Procedure:

  1. Turn on the ViewBoard
  2. Using the remote control press INPUT 9 9 1. This will open the Factory Debug Menu
  3. Select Upgrade > Upgrade All, select Enter to Confirm

The power LED will rapidly flash red and blue during the upgrade process. When finished, the panel will reboot to the out-of-box setup. The process will take approx. 4-5 minutes to complete. 

 
 

B. Power Key Upgrade (to use when the screen is blank or no access to debug menu)  

  1. Start with the ViewBoard off (Solid Red Power LED)
  2. Press the Power button to turn on the ViewBoard. As soon as the power key turns blue, press and hold down the POWER button until it starts to flash red and blue rapidly.   Then release. 

The power LED will rapidly flash red and blue during the upgrade process. When finished, the panel will reboot to the out-of-box setup. The process will take approx. 4-5 minutes to complete.
