Issue Overview
When you transfer downloaded files from a Mac to a USB flash drive or SD card, hidden system files with names beginning with ._ (dot underscore), metadata files generated by macOS, may be created. These files are invisible on macOS but can interfere with playback on other devices.
Solution
To ensure smooth playback, these ._
files should be removed from your storage device. On a Windows device, show hidden
Instructions:
- Method 1: Remove Files Using a Windows PC
- Connect your USB to a Windows computer.
- Open File Explorer from the taskbar.
- Select View > Show > Hidden items.
- Open the drive and locate all files beginning with ._.
- Select and delete these files.
- Empty the Recycle Bin before ejecting the device to ensure the files are permanently removed.
- Method 2: Remove Files Using Your Display Device
Some projectors, TVs, or media players allow file management directly from the device:- Insert the USB into your display device.
- Navigate to the file management or media browser section.
- If supported, select and delete the ._ files.
- Refer to your device’s user manual for specific instructions, as not all devices support file deletion.
- Method 3: Use a Cleanup Utility on macOS
If you prefer to manage files directly on your Mac, third-party utilities are available to remove these hidden files:- Research and choose a reputable cleanup tool that supports the removal of macOS metadata files.
