A USB flash is used when an OTA (over-the-air) update is not a viable option or a complete reflash of the firmware is required.

What is the different between OTA and USB drive firmware upgrade?


This is a full firmware installation and will erase any apps, settings or data stored in the display. Take precautions before resetting the unit.  

 

Full firmware files can be request by submitting a New Support Ticket


Instructions  

  1. Format a USB drive as FAT32 (For instructions on how to format a USB flash drive to FAT 32 please see link.) How to format USB Drive to FAT32

  2. Extract the following file to the root directory of the USB drive
    • CDExx12 extract 'MstarUpgrade_HW_7.bin’ to the root of the USB drive.

  3. Insert USB drive into the USB2.0 port located on the underside of the display

  4. Initiate Upgrade procedure



Methods to Upgrade the Firmware 

A.  Debug Menu Upgrade
B.  Power Key Upgrade (to use when the screen is blank or no access to debug menu) 

 

A. Debug Menu Upgrade Procedure:

  1. Turn on the ViewBoard

  2. Using the remote control press SOURCE 2 5 8 0. This will open the Factory Debug Menu

  3. Select Upgrade > Upgrade All, and select Confirm

The power LED will rapidly flash RED and GREEN during the upgrade process. When finished, the panel will reboot to the out-of-box setup. The process will take approx. 4-5 minutes to complete. 



 

B. Power Key Upgrade (to use when the screen is blank or no access to debug menu)  

  1. Start with the ViewBoard off (Rocker Switch near power plug set to OFF)
  2. Press and hold the Power button and use the rocker switch to turn on the ViewBoard. Continue to hold down the POWER button until it starts to flash RED and GREEN rapidly. Then release. A progress window will appear. When finished, the panel will reboot to the out-of-box setup. The process will take approx. 4-5 minutes to complete.
